Itinerary

Day 1 (6/11)

Arrival / Amman / Jerash / Decapolis / Tel Mar Elias / Jabok River / Amman

Arrival at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) via individual flight, meet and assist at the airport, transfer to your hotel in Amman for check in. (Depending on flight arrival time, clients will join the tour schedule below)

After breakfast, we visit Jerash, the Ancient Roman city and a part of the ancient Decapolis. Then we proceed to Tel Mar Elias Elias is the Latin and Arabic form for Elijah, Tell Mar Elias and the nearby village are associated with Tishbe, mentioned in the Bible as the residence and possibly even birthplace of Elijah, The ruins of the historical town of Listib ("el-Ishtib" or "el-Istib" in Arabic) have been traditionally identified with Tishbe, and are located just across a valley from the tell. The ruins of a Byzantine monastery dedicated to prophet Elijah and including two churches can be seen on the tell. After that we visit Jabok River. The River is first mentioned in the Book of Genesis in connection with the meeting of Jacob and Esau, and with the struggle of Jacob with the angel. After our long day,  we have dinner and overnight in Amman.

Day 2 (7/11)

Amman / Macharius / Madaba / Mount Nebo / Dead Sea

Today is a very special day, after breakfast, we are heading to Madaba which was once a Moabite border city, mentioned in the Bible in Numbers 21:30 and Joshua 13:9. Control over the city changed back and forth between Israel and Moab, as mentioned in the Mesha Stele.

We visit the Saint George church, home of one of the most detailed Mosaic maps in the region dating from the 6th century. The mosaic contains the earliest extant representation of Byzantine Jerusalem, labeled the "Holy City." It also provides important details about its 6th-century landmarks, with the cardo, or central colonnaded street, and the church of the Holy Sepulchre clearly visible. This map is one key in developing scholarly knowledge about the physical layout of Jerusalem after its destruction and rebuilding in 70 AD. Later are heading to Mount Nebo, which is mentioned in the Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land before his death. We visit the memorial of Moses.

Later we are heading to visit Mukawer, or Machaerus the hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great. Upon Herod’s death, his son Herod Antipas inherited the fortress and it is from here that he ordered John the Baptist to be beheaded after Salome’s fateful dance of the seven veils.

Check in at the hotel and overnight at Dead Sea.
